Largemouth Bass

The star attraction of Lake Conroe. The lake is consistently ranked among the best bass fishing lakes in Texas, with healthy populations and frequent tournament action. Target shallow coves in spring and deeper structures in summer.

Catfish

Channel catfish, blue catfish, and flathead catfish are all abundant in Lake Conroe. The lake's deep channels and abundant forage make it a catfish angler's paradise, with trophy-sized blues exceeding 50 pounds caught regularly.

Crappie

Excellent crappie fishing is available year-round, with peak seasons in spring and fall. Anglers target brush piles, bridge pilings, and submerged timber for limits of white and black crappie.

Hybrid Striped Bass

Stocked by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, hybrid striped bass provide exciting action for anglers. These hard-fighting fish are often found chasing shad on the surface in open water, particularly during cooler months.

Lake Conroe offers year-round fishing opportunities for anglers of all skill levels. Texas fishing licenses are required for anglers 17 and older.

Located on the northern shore near FM 1097, North Shore Marina offers boat slips, fuel, a ship store, and the popular Grampy Larry's restaurant. A favorite stop for boaters cruising the lake.

Bentwater Marina

The private marina serving the Bentwater community on the southern shore. Features covered slips, a fuel dock, and direct access to the main body of the lake. Available to Bentwater residents and their guests.

Stow-A-Way Marina

A full-service marina and RV park on the northwestern shore. Offers wet and dry boat storage, a launch ramp, fuel, and a convenience store. Popular with anglers heading to the upper end of the lake.

Public Boat Launches

Texas Parks and Wildlife maintains several public boat ramps around Lake Conroe, including Scott's Ridge, Cagle Recreation Area, and Stubblefield Lake Recreation Area. Day-use fees apply at most locations.

Sam Houston National Forest

Spanning 160,000 acres, the Sam Houston National Forest borders Lake Conroe and offers some of the best outdoor recreation in Southeast Texas. With over 85 miles of multi-use trails, the forest is a haven for hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians. The 128-mile Lone Star Hiking Trail runs through the forest, offering everything from short day hikes to multi-day backpacking adventures.

Campgrounds at Cagle, Stubblefield, and Double Lake provide developed and primitive camping options. Hunting is permitted in season, and the forest is home to white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and migratory birds.
